Hybrid bearings have rings made of bearing steel and rolling elements made of bearing grade silicon nitride (Si3N4). Because silicon nitride is such an excellent electrical insulator, hybrid bearings can be used to effectively insulate the housing from the shaft in both AC and DC motors as well as in generators.
In addition to being an excellent insulator, hybrid bearings have higher speed capabilities and provide longer bearing service life than standard bearings under the same operating conditions. Hybrid bearings also perform extremely well under vibrating or oscillating conditions.

The new generation SKF Speedi-Sleeve uses a proprietary stainless steel material and manufacturing process, resulting in an optimized seal counterface surface that minimizes wear on both sleeve and sealing lip.
The proprietary material provides increased strength and excellent ductility properties of the sleeve. Imperceptible lubricant pockets enable the lubricant to reside on the sleeve and thereby prevent dry running of the sealing lip that otherwise can create excessive wear.
